Our Senior Rugby Sevens squad has been working hard on their skills and building on their strength and condition in their athletic development sessions as we prepare for the 7's competions that that place after half term. The training sessions have been intense and focused, ensuring that our teams are in peak condition for the challenges ahead. The Senior First Teams started off the Sevens season with a bang at the Maidstone invitation tournament, coming away with 4 wins out of 4 against, Maidstone Grammar (28-10), Dartford Grammar (31-17), Langley Park (26-24) and Cranbrook (36-5). The team demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork, securing wins against formidable opponents. With this performance the excitement for the remainder of the Sevens season is building as we move onto to the Kent and Rosslyn Park National Competitions.
In an historic moment for Gravesend Grammar School, our first-ever Girls’ Rugby team stepped onto the pitch after weeks of training to compete in the first-ever Girls’ Rugby fixtures. The afternoon was filled with excitement and anticipation as our girls faced off against Rochester Maths and Dartford Grammar. In our first game against Rochester Maths, history was made with Katie Snow scoring the first ever try for GGS Girls’ Rugby. This was followed by a outstanding try from Jess Akomolafe to give the Girls their first ever win. Dartford Grammar was next with what was a fierce contest but scores again from Katie, Jess and a match wining performance from Ite Deolu-Adeyinka meant the girls held on to claim the victory. Our final game against Rochester Maths (As) was our last fixture, the girls dug deep but it was not to be and SJWMS took the win. Our girls played with passion, determination, and sportsmanship; we are immensely proud of their accomplishments. This marks the beginning of a new era for Girls' Rugby at Gravesend Grammar School, and we look forward to watching their continued success as they go onto the Kent and Rosslyn Park competitions.
In the Lower Years, our Year 7 and Year 8 teams have been building up to a District Round Robin Tournament and a Dartford Invitational after half term. The Year 7s have been working on understanding teamwork in defence to create pressure on the opponents, and they were able to put this into practice with a game against Hurstmere School. Even though the result didn't go our way, the improvements from previous games could be seen. The Year 8 team have been steadily improving under the tutelage of Mr Stock and put in a great performance against Hurstmere, winning 15:10, and are hoping to keep up their great form going into their 7s season.
