Start of Term 3
Year 11 students at Gravesend Grammar School celebrated a good year of results in light of the national picture. Our overall Attainment 8 score was in the 5th percentile nationally.
39% of all grades were awarded at a 7-9 level whilst 18% were awarded at 8-9 highlighting a high percentage of top end levels achieved at GGS. 55% of all grades in Mathematics were awarded at the top 7-9 band, and 50% of those in English. Computer Science (70% 7+) was also a notably high performing subject.
97% achieved a good pass in English and Mathematics, while 88% gained a strong pass in both subjects. We are particularly pleased in the current educational climate that 77% of our students passed their English Baccalaureate which contains a challenging and rigorous set of subjects. To achieve the Ebacc, students need to attain strong grades in English, Maths, Science, a Humanity and a Language.
The ‘Attainment 8’ measure, average pupil achievement across 8 qualifications, including English and Maths and at least 3 other rigorous English Baccalaureate qualifications is 63.4. In the benchmark ‘Progress 8’ measure, the school expects to achieve a level well above the National Average. This means that, on average, each student has achieved better than expected in each of their subjects.
With regards to individual performance, 9 pupils have attained an average level of an 8 or above across 10 subjects. 27 pupils got 9 or more level 7s to 9s. 36 pupils got 7 or more 7s.
We are so proud of our students and the staff that supported them in achieving such a strong set of A level results this year. Grade achieved increased across the full grade range, with students making greater progress and the overall attainment average increasing from a C+ to a B-.
This year saw a continuation of a “back to normal” approach with grading post covid. It should be noted that students who joined the Sixth Form in 2022 were subject to the “halfway house” GCSE grading in 2022 which has numerous impacts. We are a community grammar school with an inclusive entry criteria.
We are very proud of the diverse group of students we had with us for the past two years who entered our Sixth Form predominantly from year 11 here at GGS, but with a significant number from other schools. The overwhelming majority of students have gone onto their first choice of university.
Across all entries our grade profile is as follows:
