Year 12 PSHE Day

Our PSHE day on Friday 2nd February was based around the concept of risk.

There were three sessions that we rotated around along with one that was delayed from the Relationships PSHE day. This delayed session covered LGBTQIA+, educating us on the rights and existence of this group. The First Aid session informed us of heart attack and stroke symptoms, the location of some local defibrillators and CPR, where we were encouraged to practice putting each other in the recovery position. This session refreshed our memories on important and useful skills.

Another session focused on drugs where we were told about ways that we can check if certain drugs are safe especially when attending events such as festivals where drugs are very easy to encounter. This was an engaging talk which helped us to understand how to keep ourselves protected as well as look out for others if we, ourselves, or anyone around us decides to ever experiment. However, ultimately, we were warned that there is no safe, 100% risk free way to try drugs.

The final session explained the risks of gambling and the speaker was someone who had actually had a gambling addiction previously themselves. The openness of the speaker was effective as he encouraged us to ask a range of questions ensuring we got the most out of the session.
