Girls Forum

As the inspiring Hellen Keller stated ‘Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much’. The girls’ forum is all about unity between the female members of GGS and strengthening their confidence during their time in the school. The Girls’ Forum was founded by an ex-student and former member of the Head Student team, Katie Buchanan. It began with group discussions on aspects of school life, which we felt could be improved and as a collective the members acted to bring about change. For example, there have been presentations and speeches to Lower School year groups on misogyny. Meetings with the girls occur on the first Tuesday of every school term, during tutor period and this is where we provide a comfortable environment for girls. Our sessions include regular conversation between the students about their opinions of the current school system which encourages female voices to be heard. We often invite motivational women speakers to share their experience and give advice. Previously we have had an ex-student who is now a Degree Apprentice with Kier construction, and more recently, Mrs Tremain – Deputy Head Teacher at GGS, who spoke about what it is like being a female in a senior role working in a school.

Having a Girls’ Forum not only creates a productive environment where our young females can flourish but also a safe space for all. If you have not been to a meeting as yet, but are interested in finding out more, come along to our next meeting which will be on Tuesday 27th February – Room 117
