Biggy Gigmas 2023

Biggy Gigmas returned in force this year with the GGS School Hall turned into our very own top-of-the-pops/ Jools-Hollandesque multi-stage venue, with students throughout the school performing some festive numbers in a more relaxed gig-style atmosphere.

Biggy Gigmas was a music event that took place on Friday 15th December as an opportunity for young musicians to showcase their skills together in a less formal environment than the classroom or a recital. Many groups participated in the Christmas gig including the School band, senior band and School choir, but many also took to the stage as solo acts and smaller ensembles to demonstrate their musical skills to the eager crowd. As with every school gig, the atmosphere was enthusiastic while also being very supportive to those performing with some Old Boys also coming along (and even performing) toward the end to support those on stage. As a musician, I think that the gigs that the school run are always a great way to introduce potentially new performers to standing in front of a crowd without as much pressure of more formal, or larger scale events. If anyone is interested in performing, then I would personally say that it is a great way to get involved, and Biggy Gigmas only proved this idea more with many new musicians enjoying debuting appearances on stage to a crowd ready to support them. As ever, Biggy Gigmas was a brilliant, and wholesome event that helped get us all into the Christmas spirit as the term drew to a close.
