Drama - Term 1 Update

Welcome to a New Term and Exciting Drama Updates! We’re thrilled to welcome all our new Year 7 students to the Drama Department!

This term, our Year 7s have been busy building their actors’ toolkit, developing key skills such as freeze frames and thought tracking. These foundational techniques are helping them unlock creativity and confidence on stage. Our Year 8 students have been exploring staging and physical theatre, putting a modern spin on traditional fairy tales. It’s been fantastic to see how they’re using movement and space to tell stories in fresh, imaginative ways. Year 9 have begun their GCSE journey by diving into the world of theatre practitioners, with a special focus on the methodologies of Bertolt Brecht. This exploration is shaping their understanding of theatrical styles and performance techniques. Year 10 students are stepping up by creating their own practitioner workshops. This hands-on experience is preparing them for their upcoming directing and devising projects, encouraging leadership and creativity. Our Year 11 cohort is gearing up to perform their devised pieces after the October half term. This performance is a major milestone, as it counts for 30% of their GCSE grade. We’re incredibly proud of their dedication and can’t wait to see their hard work come to life on stage. Finally, a special shoutout to our Year 13 students, who will be performing on 16th October - an exciting moment for both the students and the department!

We’re also delighted to announce some fantastic improvements to our Drama space this term. The room now features a brand new black carpet—which not only looks sleek but improves acoustics and safety during rehearsals. Even better, we’ve installed tiered seating, giving everyone the best view whether performing or watching. This upgrade is already transforming how we teach and enjoy drama, making the experience more immersive and engaging for all.
