Our English Department and the Young Writers’ Club have both been busy recently. Young Writers’ most recent competition has been based on Grimm Tales. The students were inspired by the Grimm Tales stories and either adapted one of them or created their own version in only 100 words.
Grimm Tales, Tadeusz Smakowski 10P
After many years on the path to fulfil his grand quest, filled with battles so extraordinary one would think him immortal, our brave hero finally arrived at the towering door of the throne room; where the evil king had ruled with an iron fist for decades. Our hero burst through the entrance, the king beginning to stand up, striding towards his anticipated guest. The king drew his great sword, its height nearly matching his own imposing stature. The hero, sword in hand, readied himself to dodge. Alas, the king’s swing had been too quick, and too powerful for even our hero.
Beowulf, James Stronge 7P
Years ago, Denmark’s king announced the construction of a hall, so people could laugh and relax. The builders worked all day for two years to finish Heorot, when it was finished, the citizens held a feast but lurking in the shadows was Grendel… While everyone slept, Grendel broke the door and massacred 30 people. Hearing this, Beowulf sails to Denmark to slay this foe. Once he arrived he was regarded as the last hope against Grendel. Once more, Grendel attacks but after a fierce battle, Beowulf rips Grendel’s arm off making him run away, never to be seen again.
