Gold DofE - Term 4 Update

Gold DofE - Term 4 Update

Our Year 12 Gold DofE participants recently took an important step towards their final goal by completing an intensive Training Weekend on 15 and 16 March, expertly led by the Medway Open Award Centre (MOAC). Saturday’s programme focused on classroom-based training, where participants explored all aspects of a Gold-level expedition. Key topics included advanced navigation, route planning, first aid, emergency protocols and environmental awareness. These sessions provided a solid foundation of knowledge, giving participants the confidence to tackle the challenges ahead. On Sunday, the group took their learning outdoors with a practice walk from Detling to Blue Bell Hill. This route, which featured a variety of terrain including hills, woodland and open stretches, allowed them to apply their navigation skills and teamwork in a realistic environment. Despite the physical demands of the walk, the participants showed impressive determination and enthusiasm, demonstrating that they are well-prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. Beyond developing practical skills, the weekend also provided an opportunity for the groups to strengthen their teamwork and camaraderie – both of which are essential for a successful expedition. Their dedication and positive attitude were truly commendable, and we are excited to support them as they continue working towards achieving their prestigious Gold Award. Congratulations to everyone involved — we are proud of their progress and look forward to seeing them succeed in the months to come! KKP
