This term, our Bronze DofE participants have made fantastic progress in their Physical, Skills, and Volunteering activities. The students have been putting in a lot of effort and are well on their way to completing their sections. Whether it is through physical activities or honing new skills, their commitment is commendable. In the after-school sessions, the focus has shifted to map reading and navigation skills. Students have been learning to read Ordnance Survey maps, a crucial part of their forthcoming expedition. They have been diving into map symbols, learning how to interpret them accurately and how to plan a route that is safe and effective for their journey. Understanding the contours, grids, and symbols on these maps helps them become confident outdoor explorers.
Fun fact: Ordnance Survey maps cover every square inch of Great Britain, and there are over 500,000 individual maps available! Also, the world-famous grid reference system used on these maps can pinpoint exact locations to within 100 meters.
As we move forward into the next term, the students will continue to refine their outdoor skills, ensuring they are prepared for the challenges ahead. We are excited to see them continue growing and developing through the DofE programme! KKP
