For the first time in a long time, we have a Leading Cadet! Callum Fooks was interviewed by several members of CCF staff and had to explain why he was suitable for the role and demonstrate how he would react/act in different scenarios. He impressed everyone on the panel with the quality of his responses.
As the weather this term has not been particularly ‘conducive’ to outdoor activities, we have focussed on theoretical knowledge and development of leadership skills. It has been very pleasing to see a number of the newer cadets from Year 9 take on the weekly role of Senior Cadet, taking charge of the parade at the start of each Mon[1]day's session. All cadets have been involved in planning theoretical sessions to deliver to their peers, and hope to gain their next promotion shortly.
On Monday 3rd February, we were delighted to host a visit from Lieutenant Commander Chris Windsor, who left GGS in 2010. He started his career in the Royal Navy as a helicopter pilot before joining the Air Traffic Control branch, and then being heavily involved in the Royal Navy's new drone programme. He shared some information with us all about the Unmanned Aircraft Systems. We learnt about how drones are being used across the world to save money and potentially improve safety. The cadets listened well and asked some very pertinent questions. We look forward to welcoming him back again in the future to hear about the next developments.
In other exciting news for the CCF, we had previously borrowed a Field Gun from the Royal Navy but we submitted a successful bid for funds to purchase our own and it was delivered this term. When the weather improves, we look forward to getting it out and improving our timed runs. CNW
