CCF - Chatham Dockyard Visit

On the 13th of November the current Year 9 cadets went to Chatham Dockyard to learn deeper into the history of the warships and how the sailors lived their lives on the sea. When we arrived, we went into a submarine that sailors used during World War II and saw how they lived. What was very interesting is the mechanical parts of all of the ships and how each ship has different functions depending on their shape and size. We then went on to look at how they make their traditional rope (which was used in the film ’Pirates of the Caribbean’). We all spun the handle on the machine which entwined the ropes together and made them thicker and stronger.

After lunch we walked around the museum of all the ships and saw a miniature model of one of the ships which was really interesting. We then proceeded to do some activities that tested our knowledge and were really fun. Next, we looked at older ships and read articles about how they were built and when they were built which is key to know.

Finally, we went into the Museum of Art and saw a mini-model of a ship made of bones which was really cool. We saw paintings of old ships and some of modern day pieces like mind illusions etc.
