In the build up to Christmas, our Year 7 students have been creating and rehearsing whole class performances of ‘Every Panto that ever there was’ a fast paced, action packed, show which uses every pantomime convention in the book! Students have been exploring characters such as pantomime dames and evil villains and have created some wonderful performances.
Our Year 8 students have also been busy, learning about the history of puppets and how puppets are made. Their work has focused on different types of puppets from shadow puppets to marionettes, rod, hand and sock puppets. Students have been recreating traditional fairytales and using their puppets to suspend the disbelief. I am incredibly proud of the work they have produced.
Year 9 students have been focusing on developing and understanding practitioners and have been working on creating performances based in the style of Bertolt Brecht, they have focused on political drama and are now working on performing their duologues or group pieces of ‘Blood Brothers!’
Year 10 students are exploring practitioners and have created some wonderful workshops exploring, Frantic assembly, Peter Brook, Grotoswski, Katie Mitchell and Complicite. They have led whole class workshops and have started to put these skills into practice, as they prepare to work on their component 1 exam Devising Drama.
The Drama and Music Departments are proud to present this year's whole school musical ‘Peter Pan - a Musical Adventure.’ Close your eyes and imagine, close them tight and pretend as you take off on a magical trip to Never Land, where you never grow old. JM Barrie’s timeless tale of the boy who refused to grow up is reborn as a spectacular musical with a score by Stiles & Drewe and a book by the late Willis Hall, as Peter Pan whisks the Darling family’s children beyond the stars to his island where there are “no tedious distances between one adventure and the next”. Tickets will go on sale soon so make sure you book to be part of this magical adventure!
