Milton Award - Term 2 Update

Milton Award - Term 2 Update

This term has seen a great start to the Milton Award with a huge amount of success stories, brilliant participation and enthusiasm across the year group. We have seen a large number of students sign up to be part of the Combined Cadet Force and Duke of Edinburgh programmes which are integral parts of the Milton Award.

Over the next two years the students who have taken this opportunity will develop lifelong skills. These two components of the Milton Award show how our students commit to a process and persevere to reach a goal. A number of students have taken up the challenge to achieve the STEMM award which is enriching and prestigious. Whilst completing the STEMM course the students will embark on a project which will utilise and stretch their knowledge of the STEMM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine). The students will show self-motivation, perseverance and dedication. This may also lead to national recognition! This is an exciting opportunity for all students to get an insight into the ever-growing area.

A huge number of Year 9 students have participated in and coached a variety of sports so far this year and have shown perseverance and dedication. This is an key component of the Milton Award and the students' dedication is brilliant to see. We have two students in Year 9 who are currently playing up a year due to their skill level and their commitment.

Rehearsal for the School production of Bugsy Malone is in full swing and a number of our Year 9 students are key to the performance team. It is a pleasure to see a Drama production back in our calendar and it is an important component of the Milton Award.

So far this term we have seen two University Milton Lectures delivered by staff members. We have covered both "Human Sacrifice in the Aztec Empire" and "A Divided Berlin". Both of these lectures have been well attended with a high level of interest and academic intrigue. We will be offering two lectures per term so that students are able to experience a university lecture and also learn about content that is outside of their current curriculum.

We cannot wait to see how all of our Year 9 students develop over the next two years whilst completing the Milton Award.
