Netball this term has been a huge success with the inclusion of the new Year 12s into the squad going so smoothly. We began training at the end of August, where we carried out a pre-season camp which consisted of two days of training followed by a game in a competitive league against a senior ladies team. The pre-season camp was a great experience for everyone involved and bought the excitement for the whole squad for the season ahead.
At the start of the term, the Netball programme was extremely popular, having approximately 40 girls showing up to training on a Tuesday after school. With this, the popularity continued to grow and it created a really welcoming environment. On Wednesday 25th September, the 1st VII squad attended The Kent Cup held at Rainham School for Girls. It was a great experience for the whole squad. With the opposition from established schools, it meant that all games were very challenging but the effort of all members of the team couldn’t be faulted and we improved throughout the tournament. It was a great opportunity for the netball squad and we are all very proud of the performance we put out.
The experience of the tournament pushed the squad to some excellent weeks of training leading up to two block fixtures to kick off the season. The performance squad of 27 girls all took part in our first fixture against St John’s. The 1st and 2nd team were both successful and won their matches. This pushed us onto the final week of term were the first team took on Maidstone Grammar. The team put out an exceptional performance that was due to the hard work every member of the squad had put into the last eight weeks.
We have a very competitive season coming up after half term which we are all looking forward to. I am very proud of the dedication and effort from everyone in the squad and am excited for the fixtures ahead of us.
