Year 13 are actively working on their UCAS applications with many having already applied for early deadline courses at Oxford & Cambridge universities as well as Medicine and Dentistry. I look forward to hearing news as the application cycle progresses. For those still making choices and writing their personals statement there are still open days coming up and webinars and other resources to inspire you.

This term we have been running workshops for apprentices and in recent weeks Lis McGuire of Giraffe CVs has brought her professional insight on CVs and LinkedIn and delivered excellent activities to help our students stand out from the crowd. We have also had guidance from CXK on searching and applying for vacancies to help students seek out the many and varied opportunities available. Then the most recent workshop was provided by Construction Youth Trust (CYT) and gave invaluable guidance on interview skills including plenty of practice answering popular questions that come up time and again. CYT also ran an introductory session on apprenticeships for some of our Year 11 students with volunteers Oliver and Tom, Quantity Surveyors from MESH. This was an excellent opportunity for the students to hear about the pros and cons of apprenticeships first hand and hear about this professional role in construction.

Year 11 interviews are also underway, every student will be seen individually to discuss their post-16 options and future career ideas. Open evenings for other schools and colleges are coming up so please make sure that you check the dates and register if you are interested. To explore all course options at schools and colleges in Kent you can use the Kent Choices website: https://www.kentprospectus.co.uk/ Please note that this does not include schools in other areas such and Bexley, Medway or Essex. For these options please search for individual school or college websites. Gravesend Grammar School 6th Form Open Evening will take place in January and there will be more information available before then to guide the students through their A level subject choices including a meeting for students and their parents on 21st November 2024.
