Medical Law - Trainee solicitors, Bethany Fryer and former student Harvey Duffy (GGS 2013-20), joined aspiring medics and lawyers this term in Medical Society for a talk on medical law, particularly medical negligence. This talk explored the legal power of patients following clinical negligence in healthcare, essentially the harm of a patient due to substandard treatment from any staff member in the hospital. For example, it is crucial that the consent of the patient is always fully informed with all critical information on the procedure being presented clearly beforehand, including alternatives and effectiveness. Furthermore, Harvey and Bethany outlined the routes to pursue a career in law, accounting for the wide range of specific roles such as solicitors, barristers, paralegals and chartered legal executives which could be achieved through both apprenticeships and university after completing A levels.  Noor Alhous 12ACM
