School Uniform & Equipment

Years 7-11

The current uniform supplier for Gravesend Grammar School is Monkhouse Schoolwear (formerly known as Simmonds & Son Ltd).

Families are reminded that only a few items of uniform need to be purchased from the uniform supplier. These are the school blazer badge, House coloured tie, rugby shirt and house coloured PE t-shirt. All other items may be purchased from a retailer of parents choosing.

Monkhouse Schoolwear

Clothing:

  • Formal black shoes
  • Black socks
  • Black trousers
  • White or blue shirt
  • House coloured tie
  • Black blazer with school badge on the breast pocket
  • A black Charcoal or Navy ‘V’ neck jumper may be worn underneath the blazer in winter
  • Lanyard and ID card (supplied by the school in the first instance)

Hair: should be clean, tidy, its natural colour and of a conventional style

Jewellery: Wristwatch only. No other jewellery is permitted.

Sports kit Years 7 – 11 (for PE, Games lessons and extracurricular activities):
  • Long black Football / Rugby socks
  • Black shorts
  • Reversible rugby shirt
  • House coloured PE T- shirt
  • Trainers
  • Football / Rugby boots (screw in or moulded studs)
  • Shin pads
  • Mouth guard

In the event of colder weather plain coloured thermal underlayers, plain appropriate gloves and a plain hat will be permitted. These items will be worn under the PE kit. No additional items of clothing are to be worn over the PE kit. Use of cold weather clothing will be directed by the class teacher.

Sixth Form Dress Code

The overall expectation is appearance in line with that expected in a smart business environment. 

Coats, scarves, hats and hoodies are not to be worn inside the buildings. No obtrusive logos, patterns or advertising on any items of clothing. Students failing to meet the dress code may be required to leave the school site to get changed.

Male students

Dos:
  • A suit or blazer with trousers, a school tie, shirt and shoes. 
  • Jackets to be worn to and from school and in and around the school.
  • A plain V neck or ¼ zip cardigan or jumper may be worn under the suit or jacket.
  • Facial hair must be kept smart and suitable for a formal, business environment
  • Only one stud-type piece of jewellery per ear, one ring, a wrist watch, a discreet necklace.
Do nots:
  • No jeans or chinos.

Female students

Dos:
  • Skirt, of an appropriate length, or trouser suit in a dark or sober colour.
  • Blazers to be worn to and from school and in and around the school.
  • Minimal, natural make up.
  • Dark shoes with sensible heel (not high).
  • Only one stud-type piece of jewellery per ear, one ring, a wrist watch, a discreet necklace.   
Do nots:
  • No vest tops; bare shoulders, cleavage or midriffs.
  • No skin tight trousers.

All:

  • Conventional hair style of a natural colour.
  • No trainers
