Mission Statement

At Gravesend Grammar School we are fortunate to have a designated Performance space which includes portable staging, blackout curtains and lighting rigs. We aim to develop a creative and disciplined approach to the study of Drama and Theatre through a combination of practical and written activities. Students will be provided with opportunities to get involved in Drama both within the classroom and outside of the curriculum. School productions will provide students with the chance to engage with Drama and Theatre. Technical and performance roles are both significant and rewarding.

The study of Drama and Theatre not only enriches knowledge and understanding of a wide variety of playwrights and theatre practitioners, but also develops emotional and creative intelligence of students. Students are encouraged to develop their critical thinking, not just about texts, but also regarding real issues. Exploration of themes and topics is undertaken through discussion, research and practical engagement.

We aim to provide each and every student with the chance to develop their own leadership skills, communication skills, management and organisational skills. Whilst also maintaining their creativity and self-discipline. All of these key skills will assist them later in life in a variety of situations. We aim to help them communicate, with confidence, their own perceptions/ thoughts/ ideas and feelings. As well as to show an empathetic understanding of the ideas of others.

During their participation in our Curriculum areas, we aim to help students develop the key skills such as listening, communicating, teamwork and collaboration. As well as promoting independent thinking, self discovery and opportunities for self-reflection. All of these skills transferable to other areas of the school curriculum and also to the wider community.
