Mission Statement

Chemistry is a process not just a collection of facts. We wish our students to develop mastery of a demanding knowledge based curriculum in chemistry, not limited by the confines of GCSE and A level specifications and examinations. Students will develop high level practical skills and techniques and detailed understanding of the scientific method. As students progress through the key stages our curriculum will revisit core concepts to strengthen understanding, adding complexity and depth at each stage. We aim to equip them with the knowledge and skill to investigate, question, challenge and advance the world around them and help to advance the world of the future. We wish to engage their imagination, ability and curiosity through relating content to the ‘real world’, the use of purposeful practical work and contextual problem solving so that the questions themselves become more interesting than getting the correct answer.

Key Stage 3

Science is the best subject. We get to carry out experiments and use laboratory equipment. I love learning about how living organisms work, why things move and all the different types of chemical reactions. Its great fun!!

Key Stage 4

Studying chemistry at GGS has broadened my knowledge, exposing me to new concepts that have helped me understand how the world works at a subatomic level and how this can be applied to observations in daily life that most of us just accept but do not know why they occur. Along with this, we have the fun of practicals.

Key Stage 5

Chemistry in the sixth form has enabled me to not just learn about the subject but become an expert Chemist myself. We carry out interesting practical work and have access to a wide range of equipment. This is enabling me to learn more and more about the laws that govern the chemical world around me and hopefully will allow me to continue related study after leaving GGS
