Our Religious Education department is dedicated to fostering religious literacy, critical thinking, and respect for diversity. We aim to equip students with the knowledge and skills to engage meaningfully with the complex and diverse world in which they live.
We believe in balancing academic rigour with open dialogue, encouraging students to debate, discuss, and apply key ideas to their own lives. Through our broad and balanced curriculum, we explore all major world religions, as well as humanist and non-religious perspectives, providing opportunities for cross-perspective comparison and discussion.
Our commitment to respect and dialogue ensures that every student, regardless of their background or beliefs, feels included and valued. We empower students to engage with different worldviews with maturity, enquiry, and understanding, preparing them to contribute positively to their communities and relationships.
Through Religious Education, our students develop into thoughtful, reflective, and engaged citizens, ready to embrace the opportunities and challenges of a diverse society.
‘I think that RE is very good. I’ve enjoyed RE a lot so far. I loved learning about new religions and I really admire some of their cultures.’ ‘RE is a really interactive subject and you get to debate different topics’.
With Philosophy A level students will learn the key skills of how to write clearly and accurately, how to express persuasive arguments, and how to develop their own thinking. This will help me with my other subjects that I would like to take for A level such as Economics.
"Philosophy at GGS, while not examined, has given me many transferable skills and invaluable insight for later life, as well as being incredibly complimentary to my other subjects, particularly English, History and Politics. Its presence in the school curriculum has allowed me to accrue an interest in philosophy. So much so that I'm currently working on a philosophy based EPQ, hoping to extend my study of philosophy into University."
“I am currently in year 12 and doing an EPQ in philosophy, specifically in ontology and reality. I thoroughly enjoyed studying philosophy in KS4 as we covered many topics and even did a small logic course which really helped to widen my critical thinking skills. Researching for my EPQ has been very rewarding and informative to see the many paths and ways of thinking that famous philosophers have created. I find philosophy truly fascinating as it surrounds us, yet we never think that deeply. I strongly encourage anyone to research just some of the basic ideas of thought such as platonic thought.”
