Rugby - Term 2 Round up

As the final whistle blows on what has been another great year for Gravesend Grammar School rugby, we find ourselves reflecting on an exhilarating season—from unforgettable victories to heart-stopping moments— the journey of our players has been nothing short of extraordinary.

One of the standout moments was the impressive victory for our 1st team against local rivals, Dartford Grammar School, a match that showcased the skill, determination, and teamwork that defined our Y13 players that left everything on the field and displaying a level of sportsmanship and professionalism that shows how far the team have developed. Victories like this not only boost morale but also serve as a reminder of the collective strength that comes from hard work and unity.

The final of our rugby season was a spectacular evening under the lights, where the 1st team faced off against Kings Rochester. But beforehand we hosted our first ever Junior Rugby lunch, where around 100 players for Year 7 to Year 10 spent the evening being waited on by the Senior rugby players. Awards were given out to players across the school, which led into the evening’s game. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation as around 300 supporters gathered to witness what has become an historic fixture. From the first kick-off to the final try, the players showcased exceptional skill, strategy, and determination. The match was a true spectacle, with both teams leaving it all on the pitch. The roar of the crowd echoed the intense moments and brilliant plays that unfolded throughout the evening. Under the lights, our 1st team delivered a performance that will last not only in the memories of players but for everyone who has been involved in the programme this year, with Gravesend being victorious with a 38-3 victory. Off the field, we had the opportunity to host some players from the Turks and Caicos. Our Senior rugby players got the opportunity to help coach and develop the skills of the players and leave a lasting impression as rugby looks to develop on the Island.

The end of the season is not just a conclusion; it's a celebration of the dedication, hard work, and passion that define Gravesend Grammar School’s rugby programme. Our players have demonstrated exceptional skills, resilience, and sportsmanship, leaving a lasting legacy on and off the field. I would like extend a heartfelt thank you to all the players, coaches, and supporters who made this season an unforgettable success. The success of this season sets the stage for continued excellence and we eagerly anticipate the next chapter in the journey, which will be our Sevens competitions.
