Mission Statement

It is the aim of the Politics department to produce students at the end of Year 13 who are politically literate, inquisitive and knowledgeable about the world around them. Students will understand the decision making process of the top levels of government, taking into account different factors and influences, such as partisanship, constituent’s views and moral/core values.

We will equip them with critical thinking skills, enabling them to analyse contemporary issues, articles and sources in order to reach their own conclusions. Lessons are planned in a way which encourages debate and discussion, allowing students to showcase their independent learning and reading around the subject.

The key to success in Politics is immersion in current affairs, with students excelling when they have a genuine interest in the world around them and how decisions made by the government affect their lives and others.

Key Stage 5

A-level politics is a subject that I really enjoy due to how engaging it is, in and out of the classroom. We are educated on current issues where we have the opportunity to debate and discuss our personal views on events currently happening around us. I get great support from the teachers, who keep the content interesting which provides me with confidence to conduct my own further research. For anyone considering Politics at A-Level, I would strongly recommend it as it is a very rewarding subject which is different from the standard academics that are offered, with really interesting topics in a supportive learning environment. Politics is by far the most enjoyable subject out of my 3 A-Levels , the discussion element and the ability to go into real depth has made me really enjoy time as a politics student at GGS . The constantly evolving syllabus is unique in that it is determined by present events in both the US and UK political systems , this makes politics a uniquely fascinating subject. In addition to this the teachers have encouraged me to be more outspoken in class and has given me the confidence to express my own political views without fear of disagreement. I would recommend politics to any student looking at GGS for 6th form . Amazing staff , really interesting and relevant topics and a unique learning environment. GT Y13
