Career Guidance at Gravesend Grammar School

The careers programme at GGS is designed to provide all students with the education, information, advice and guidance to help them make the right career decisions and is designed to meet the Gatsby Benchmarks.

The programme aims to raise aspirations and support students to achieve their full potential whilst they are in school and also in their future career paths.

All students have access to independent, impartial careers guidance from the school careers adviser who is qualified to level 7 and a member of the CDI professional register. They also benefit from a dedicated Careers team in School who have a breadth of experience and Careers Guidance qualifications.

In 2011, GGS was awarded the Investor in Careers award, a quality award which certifies that we have “achieved the most exacting standards of excellence in careers education and guidance.” The School is reassessed against the standards every three years and passed again in July 2022. The school is committed to upholding the standards of the Investor in Careers Award and is currently undergoing the reassessment process.

The school CEIAG policy including Provider Access Policy can be found in the Information section of the school website.

Policies

There is a focus on making all students aware of the opportunities that Higher Education has to offer. Strong links with local and Russell Group universities provide up to date information and the chance for students to experience at first hand a range of aspects of university life. All students are guided and supported through the UCAS application process via a series of activities including university visits, individual guidance and mock interviews.

Alongside activities relating to Higher Education are work-related learning activities, providing insight into career progression beyond education. Year 10 boys undertake a full week of work experience in a range of professions, both locally in the borough and further afield in Kent, Medway and central London. Links with local and larger corporate employers are utilised to raise awareness of the different routes into professions including apprenticeships in sectors such as accountancy, law, construction and engineering. Companies offering higher and degree level apprenticeships visit the school and seek out our school leavers.

Opportunities for the future are ever increasing and the process of finding your desired path can be confusing and stressful, but our expert team takes a pride in guiding you through this.
