The Physical Education Department at Gravesend Grammar School provides a rigorous and extensive programme of core and examined PE and Games, that enables all students to excel, pushing the top students to compete whilst allowing all abilities to stay active and play. We hope that all students are given the opportunity to stay competitively active at their own ability level through our complete mission statement which enable experience, intrinsic reward, knowledge/skill progress to encourage lifelong participation through House competition, alongside recreational and competitive involvement in extra curricular sport nurtured by the ‘Student Athlete’ mentality, with academic support through sports teams.

Our Curriculum provision of 20 + Sports/Activities is supported by our Extra-Curricular programme where students can take their skills to the next level, representing the School in 12 Sports; Rugby Union, Hockey, Athletics, Cricket, Badminton, Swimming, Football, Table Tennis, Frisbee, Basketball, X-Country, Golf, and Fitness.

Student Voice

Key Stage 3 Core PE/Games

“I love being out and learning new skills in so many different sports and activities - we are graded on effort and this let’s everyone do their best. It is my favourite subject.”

Key Stage 4 Core PE/Games

“Core PE/Games is brilliant because we learn new sports and skills that make us better people. This translates to an ability to improve at some of our core sports where we can represent the school and make great memories through all of these experiences.”

Key Stage 4 GCSE Examined PE

“I enjoy GCSE PE because it is unlike every other lesson and allows me to learn about the sports I play, the history of that sport, commercialisation and how we can become better performers. We also learn about important things that help us keep healthy, such as diet, nutrition, fitness and the psychology of sport.”

Key Stage 5 A-Level Examined PE

“I've always enjoyed doing PE at GGS, not only because the content covered is interesting, but each teacher has their own unique way of engaging the class which keeps the lessons fun regardless of whether they are theoretical or practical.”
