At KS3, students will find that Mathematics is not just numeracy or algebra, but about learning key cognitive skills in order to solve simple problems working up to more complex scenarios. Students are taught in tutor groups in Year 7 and banded by ability in Year 8. Students will have their intellect challenged to raise their aspirations in order to provide a springboard to KS4.
Within Key Stage 4, students will continue to advance their Mathematics within four main content areas as well as developing transferable skills such as problem solving, logic and quantitative analysis. Students will be challenged to advance their understanding of the subject beyond the usual GCSE levels in order to prepare them fully for the rigour of Key Stage 5 Mathematics. All students will take the Higher Mathematics GCSE with some also sitting Additional Mathematics and GCSE Further Mathematics.
At KS5 we offer courses in A Level Mathematics and A Level Further Mathematics. Students study elements of Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics over 2 years and learn to apply their skills to solve challenging problems. This is a popular subject and students are well supported throughout the course. The results students achieve are outstanding, and many go on to higher education to study Mathematics and associated subjects at excellent universities.
